Timestamp Uncertainty Calculator

Compare explicitly stated UTC offsets and observation-time uncertainty ranges without forcing false timeline precision.

Fabricated timestamps only. Time inputs are treated as wall-clock readings with explicitly declared UTC offsets and symmetric uncertainty allowances. Clock drift and timestamp precision must be documented, not guessed from their apparent agreement.
Record A
Record B

Default expectation: the time intervals overlap by 30 seconds. JavaScript calculates the updated result.

Interpretation

For each recorded event, compute UTC = recorded wall time − declared UTC offset. The plausible interval is UTC ± measured or documented maximum clock/time uncertainty. Overlapping intervals show only that the two event times could coincide within those bounds, not that the records describe the same action, originate independently, or involve the same actor.

When not to use this calculator

Do not use symmetric uncertainty if the evidence has asymmetric processing delays, missing time-zone rules, ambiguous daylight-saving transitions, or stepwise clock corrections. Separate event-generation time from ingestion and display times; preserve raw source timestamps.
