Why This Archive Exists

A portfolio and a historical subject can share a website without pretending to be the same discipline.

GitHub journal: an original editorial note, maintained as a version-controlled Markdown file.

Two very different kinds of work

A forensic examination follows artifacts, acquisition context and questions that can be tested. A historical reconstruction follows records, provenance and interpretive dispute. Neither discipline improves when the investigator conceals an inconvenient gap. Benandanti.org brings them together as parallel practices of careful inquiry, not as interchangeable truth systems.

The point of a public notebook

A conventional résumé can list projects but rarely shows how a conclusion was produced. A research notebook can expose methods, revisions and failures. We want readers to identify which claims are established, which are reasonable inferences and which remain proposals.

A static publishing decision

This journal is authored in Markdown and designed to be versioned with Git. The public pages are ordinary static HTML. There is no login, no comment database and no third-party tracking dependency. The goal is durability: an article should remain readable even when a publishing platform vanishes.

What counts as progress

Progress means a new supported claim, a corrected error, an independently reviewed method or a properly documented negative result. An impressive page count is not itself a research contribution.
