No More Citation Laundering

A citation can be real and still fail to support the sentence beside it.

The polished failure mode

Research pages often display references that look authoritative. A visitor assumes the citations justify the precise wording. Yet the cited document may support a weaker claim, a different time period or merely an earlier summary of the same source.

A correction-friendly design

An article should identify which claim is supported by which source. A reader should be able to challenge a particular inference without attacking an entire author or website. The best citation system is not the one with the longest bibliography; it is the one that survives a skeptical question.

The editorial test

Choose three factual sentences at random. Open their linked records and ask whether a careful stranger could derive the same statements without relying on the site's prose. If not, rewrite the claims or mark the evidentiary gap.
