The tempting conclusion
When an expected log or file is absent, deliberate removal is an understandable hypothesis. It is not the only one. Retention limits, configuration, clock drift, crashes and software behavior can all remove or prevent an artifact.
Controlled comparison
First establish what the system normally records under the relevant conditions. Repeat a safe event with the same application version and logging state. Preserve documentation about rollover and collection. Only then compare the observed absence to the expected pattern.
The reporting standard
State the artifact was not recovered, the collection scope and the competing mechanisms. Attribution of deletion requires positive evidence stronger than silence alone.
